Nyanza: A tragic tale of betrayal as father accused of brutally killing his 11-Year-Old Son
In Rwanda’s Southern Province, a deeply disturbing case has emerged involving a 32-year-old man from Nyanza District who is under investigation for the brutal murder of his 11-year-old son, Gisubizo. The young boy, a student at GS Hanika School in Nyanza town, had reportedly left school on May 5, 2025, to visit his father, who worked as a barber. What should have been a moment of bonding between father and son turned into an unspeakable tragedy.
According to verified information from security sources, instead of welcoming his son warmly, the father is accused of luring him to Huye District, where he allegedly took the boy’s life in a gruesome manner. Reports indicate that after the murder, the father went as far as beheading the child and attempting to burn the body, although the head was not completely incinerated.
The crime came to light on May 9, 2025, when law enforcement arrested the suspect in Murambi Village, Rwesero Cell, Busasamana Sector of Nyanza District.
Speaking to the press, Police Spokesperson for the Southern Province, SP Emmanuel Habiyaremye, confirmed the arrest and the nature of the crime. “He is being investigated for the murder of his 11-year-old son. The investigation is ongoing, but it is extremely disturbing that someone entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing and protecting a child would instead become the source of such cruelty,” he said.
SP Habiyaremye urged the public to refrain from all forms of criminal behavior, especially acts that endanger life. He emphasized that those who attempt such crimes will face serious consequences under the law.
This incident sends a strong message to Rwandan society as a whole. A child is the pride of a family and the hope of a nation. That a parent could plan and execute the murder of their own child points to possible deep-rooted psychological or social issues that warrant further examination.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting unusual behavior or potential threats to the safety of others—particularly children—before tragedy strikes.
Police authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will soon be handed over to the Prosecution Service for further inquiry and legal action.
