CAF Releases List of Africa’s Top 75 Football Clubs
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the official ranking of the top 75 football clubs on the continent, based on recent performances in CAF competitions. The announcement was made ahead of the draws for the CAF interclub tournaments scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The rankings were published on the morning of Friday, August 8, 2025, as anticipation builds for the group stage draws of both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
At the top of the list is Al Ahly SC of Egypt, a club that has dominated African football for years, with a total of 75 points. It is followed by Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa with 62 points, while Espérance de Tunis from Tunisia ranks third with 57 points.
RS Berkane of Morocco and Simba SC of Tanzania complete the top five, earning 52 and 48 points respectively. The rankings are based on club performances in CAF competitions over the past seasons.
South Africa leads all countries in terms of club representation on the list, with eight teams included. It is followed by Algeria with seven clubs, while Egypt, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) each have five teams featured.
Despite having two clubs—APR FC in the CAF Champions League and Rayon Sports in the CAF Confederation Cup—Rwanda does not have any team ranked among Africa’s top 75 clubs.
This absence continues to highlight the gap between Rwandan clubs and the top-performing sides on the continent, underlining the long journey still ahead in competing at the highest level in African football.
