Trump and Putin Set to Meet in Peace Talks Aimed at Ending War in Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in high-level talks scheduled to take place in the coming days, aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov, the location of the meeting has already been confirmed, and the talks are expected to take place as early as the beginning of next week. Ushakov confirmed that both sides have reached an agreement regarding the long-anticipated summit.

This upcoming meeting follows the recent visit of Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who held discussions with President Putin in Moscow on August 6. Their talks reportedly focused heavily on prospects for peace in Ukraine and how the U.S. and Russia could work together toward that goal.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, President Trump expressed strong optimism that the meeting with Putin could also pave the way for direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as part of a broader effort to achieve long-term peace.

From the Kremlin’s side, Ushakov noted that a potential three-way summit involving the leaders of the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine was one of the key topics discussed during Witkoff’s visit to Moscow.

President Zelensky has also voiced support for the proposed summit, emphasizing the importance of both bilateral and multilateral negotiations. However, he insisted that the European Union must play a central role in any regional peace-building efforts.

Still, tensions remain. Last month, Trump told the BBC that he felt “let down” by Putin following four separate visits by Witkoff to Moscow. While the initial discussions showed promise, Trump said they ultimately failed to produce concrete results.

Following the latest round of talks between the Kremlin and Witkoff, the Kremlin issued a statement saying the discussions had been productive and that there is hope for progress on a potential agreement.
