AFC/M23 seizes eight areas in Masisi
Clashes between AFC/M23 fighters and the coalition of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) left the rebel group in control of eight areas in Masisi territory, North Kivu.
The fighting, which took place on Sunday, September 7, 2025, resulted in AFC/M23 capturing Mafuo, Biholo, Shoa, Bwambaliro, Busoro, Kinyeere, Burora, and Ngesha.
All of these areas are located in the Osso Banyungu sector.
After being defeated, Wazalendo fighters and FARDC troops retreated to Kazinga and Mahanga, on the border between Masisi and Walikale territories.
According to information from Actualite, Wazalendo and FARDC forces are regrouping to try to recapture these areas through renewed fighting.
Although AFC/M23 currently controls Masisi’s trading center, some parts of the territory remain under government control.
